The new headquarters for the information and telecommunications technology for the City of Munich was built on the “M-Campus” of Stadtwerke München (Munich municipal utilities).

The IT-Rathaus accommodates a data center with spaces for offices, training, IT laboratories, a library and a canteen on a general floor area of 30 000 square meters.

Following the new technical standards for operating a data center, a concept of sustainability for the building services design was planned and achieved. Renewable energies such as a photovoltaic system on the roof and geothermal energy supply the building complex with electricity and heat. Combining district cooling systems extracted from the groundwater with district heating systems, the cooling demand for the headquarters as well as the data center is covered.
